Why PSNH Opposes HB 1238

For Immediate Release:

CONCORD, N.H., February 2, 2012—The forced sale of Public Service of New Hampshire generation facilities is not in the best interest of PSNH customers, nor the New Hampshire economy, and would threaten hundreds of jobs in the state. That was the main message today when PSNH testified in opposition to House Bill 1238, which calls for the divestiture of the company’s generation facilities by the end of next year.

Eastman Falls Hydro Station

PSNH’s Hydro Generation division logged another successful year in 2011, finishing 7 percent ahead of its long-term average of generation output. PSNH owns and operates nine hydroelectric facilities throughout New Hampshire. These 100 percent renewable energy resources combine to produce 65 megawatts of electricity for PSNH customers.

PSNH, along with Centrix Bank, have recently been named 2012 Community Partners of the Milford Improvement Team, pledged to support the group’s ongoing efforts to boost Milford’s revitalization and economic development.

The following letter from the Keene Senior Center was sent to PSNH Western/Central Division community relations manager Sue Blothenburg, in appreciation for PSNH’s response to a recent power-related incident:

PSNH recently provided a $5,000 grant to Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth towards its Heritage House Program—an effort to restore, renovate, and rent underutilized buildings on the 10-acre campus.

The program has three objectives:

Dimmable LED

Lighting Facts, a labeling program of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is designed to ensure that the LED lighting products you’re purchasing meet your expectations for performance.

Effective with participating customers’ March electric bill, PSNH’s EarthSmart Green Rate, as approved by the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, will increase from 1.972 cents/kWh to 3.579 cents/kWh.

historic log books

Hundreds of years removed from the white noise hum of the 21st century HVAC system at PSNH’s Energy Park headquarters in Manchester, echoes of a simpler yet much noisier time when the site was part of the sprawling Amoskeag Manufacturing Company are noted in three historic log books that were retrieved by a former employee of the Manchester Steam Plant before its closure in 1981.

PSNH: EPA Permit Deeply Flawed

MANCHESTER, N.H., February 29, 2012 – Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH), joined by energy companies and trade associations from around the country, has filed its response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) reissuance of a permit for the company's Merrimack Station power plant in Bow, NH. The EPA issued a Draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit for the facility on September 30, 2011, more than fourteen years after PSNH filed for a renewal of its existing permit.
