PSNH Crews Travel to Maryland to Help Restore Power

MANCHESTER, N.H., July 1, 2012—Public Service of New Hampshire workers will be on the road early Monday morning, heading for Maryland where hundreds of thousands of customers remain without power in the wake of a severe weather system that passed through the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions on Friday.

Line workers and support personnel from Public Service of New Hampshire are on their way to Maryland to assist customers of Baltimore Gas & Electric Company. The PSNH workers, including five linetrucks, a supervisor and a mechanical crew, will part of a larger contingent from other Northeast Utilities subsidiaries around New England.

Laurel Brown Named PSNH's Western/Central Community Relations Manager

KEENE, N.H., July 12, 2012 – Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH) has named Laurel Brown the company's new community relations manager for its Western/Central Division. Brown will be responsible for representing PSNH to municipalities and business organizations across a territory stretching from the Greater Keene area to the Upper Valley and the Lakes Regions.

Steve Fuller

When Steve Fuller, PSNH’s new manager of Safety and Health, moved out of his parents’ house when he was 17 and moved into the Bellows Falls, Vermont firehouse, he had visions of one day becoming a full-time professional firefighter. But the voice of an influential friend, a change of course while at college, and an impressionable internship with a PSNH veteran changed everything.

Linemen and support personnel from PSNH returned to the Granite State July 11 after working in brutally hot conditions for more than a week in Maryland and Pennsylvania. The 10 PSNH line workers, two mechanics and a supervisor helped restore power to customers of Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) who were impacted by a severe June 29 thunderstorm that knocked out power to more than 3 million homes and business in the Mid-Atlantic region. Before they returned home, the crews were redeployed to the area of Reading, Pennsylvania, to help customers of Med-Ed Co.

Glenn Couture

The photos on the walls in PSNH’s Pittsfield Training Center cafeteria are so numerous and colorful, you barely notice that there are tables and chairs, too. It’s a “wall of fame” of PSNH line crews over the years, and Glenn Couture, supervisor of Training and Methods (pictured), is proud of the fact that, though off the beaten track, the road to field worker excellence at PSNH since 2006 has gone through this small community northeast of Concord.

The weather is warm, the kids are out of school, so it’s the perfect time to once again Discover the Power of Parks, presented by New Hampshire State Parks in collaboration with the Student Conservation Association (SCA), and made possible by financial support from PSNH. Programs include guided hikes, interpretive tours, and imaginative environmental workshops for children and families at Monadnock, Franconia Notch, Greenfield, and White Lake state parks.

An Ayers Island osprey

Three osprey chicks were hatched and are being raised at the nest adjacent to the PSNH Ayers Island hydroelectric facility. The birds can be viewed on a streaming web camera.

This season marks the ninth year we’ve been watching the ospreys at Ayers Island. They first arrived in 2004 and, after getting settled in the first year, successfully raised the first two Ayers Island ospreys in 2005. Since then, a total of 16 ospreys have been born, making it one of the most productive nests in the Lakes Region.
