With electricity rates on the rise for many New Englanders, large power consumers are especially concerned about the impact on their budgets. Thankfully, there are a number of ways that businesses can cut back and save big. By being able to access energy efficiency programs through NH Saves and PSNH, companies all over New Hampshire are going green while saving some green. Just look at what these businesses are doing:

Autumn leaves at Energy Park

I’ve stopped using my air conditioner and dehumidifier for the season. Why doesn’t my bill go down?

As summer turns to fall and fall into winter, many customers believe that they should see a decrease in their bill. But even though you’re no longer using air conditioners to beat the heat, many devices and appliances you use during the colder weather months can cause your electric bill to increase significantly.

Do you have any tips on how I can save money this winter?

Fall is one of my favorite times of year. The sights, smells, and colors are fantastic, but that also means that the weather is changing, and I’ve been spending most of my time cleaning up leaves. Gotta love New England!

I was doing some yard work the other day when a wind picked up and I got a wicked chill, reminding me what we have in store over the next few months. This got me thinking about winter and how I can keep my home both warm and energy efficient.

Q: What types of energy saving programs and rebates are available to me?

Thanks for your question, this one hits close to home. We are on the cusp of summer and I found myself in need of a new air conditioner—talk about a bad time to buy! Fortunately PSNH takes part in the Energy Star home appliance program and I was able to get an extra $20 rebate, so with some smart shopping that added up to a real savings.

ES Home Training

With more and more electric customers looking to invest in energy efficiency around their homes, residential housing developers have taken notice and are educating themselves on the latest energy saving technologies and techniques. These techniques go well beyond projects in existing homes, as developers are now building new homes from the ground up with energy efficiency in mind.

NH Energy Efficiency Programs Earn Top Honors

Manchester, NH March 28, 2013 – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Public Service of New Hampshire and the NH CORE Utilities its 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emission by delivering energy efficiency information and services to their customers. The award was presented this week at an EPA ceremony in Washington D.C. The New Hampshire utilities also earned the 2013 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award for their long-term commitment to energy efficiency.

Keene State College has received $150,000 in incentive rebates from PSNH through its New Equipment and Construction program for energy-efficient equipment installed in the new Technology, Design, and Safety (TDS) Center. The College installed energy-efficient heating, ventilation, lighting, and air conditioning systems that brought the TDS Center to the highest standard for energy efficiency in new construction, qualifying it for LEED Platinum certification.

An initiative by nhsaves—a cooperative effort by the state’s four major electric utilities (PSNH, Unitil, Liberty Utilities, and NH Electric Co-op)—is encouraging citizens to save energy and money by stocking up on bargain-priced CFL bulbs and LED lamps.

For a cutting edge manufacturing firm like Elbit Systems of America, finding efficiencies large or small while doing business is critical to ensuring growth and success in today’s economy. That’s why despite being focused on manufacturing state-of-the-art medical instruments and components for the defense and aviation industries, Elbit chose to upgrade the outdoor lighting at its Daniel Webster Highway facility in Merrimack.
